His passion for photography started at home with an old German SLR his father won in a game of spoof on his voyage over to England from Australia by boat in 1959 - never try your luck at spoof with an Aussie who believes in the best of three rounds at anything!
I find looking through boxes of old family photographs fascinating, trying to imagine who these faces are and the lives they might have lived. In this brave new world of digital image capture where we all take large numbers of photographs, upload them to the computer and then generally forget about them, I worry about how many of us are conscientious enough to back them up. How much of our family histories are being lost due to computer failure, images that can never be recovered.
Over the last couple of years I have been asked by several clients if I would put together a family history as a photographic record. I have handled beautiful prints dating back to the late 19th century up to and including digital files from great-grandchildren's mobile phones. With editorial help from various members of the families, I have gathered together remarkable images, scanned and repaired where necessary, and created a portfolio of print-ready files. Using a book publishing software I have then designed large format, hard-backed books printed on high quality paper stock. These clients now possess a unique record spanning several generations that is there to be looked at for all time, where Grandparents can sit down with Grandchildren and talk about their past, re-living and preserving precious memories that might otherwise be lost.
These books also make the perfect gift for landmark occasions - significant birthdays, weddings and anniversaries.
